Update DNS for Flywheel Cloud Upgrade

Updated on October 21st, 2022

Woohoo, your sites are ready to be upgraded to Flywheel’s new Cloud Platform! In this article, we’ll look over how to prepare your sites for the upgrade by updating DNS.

   Table of Contents:

Upgrade Center

To prepare your site and begin the upgrade process, you’ll need to update the DNS records for all domains associated with the site. To get started, visit the Upgrade Center. Here you’ll find a list of all your sites and domains that are eligible for the upgrade, along with some helpful info.

  • Site: the site name and corresponding domain
  • DNS Provider: the DNS service that manages your domain
  • New IP: the IP address of the cloud server Flywheel has been assigned to your site
  • DNS Status: the current state of the domain (Not Updated, In Progress, or Updated)
  • Update DNS button: updates DNS automatically, if your domain supports Domain Connect

Updating DNS

Before our system can schedule the upgrade for your site, it first needs to confirm that all your site’s domains are pointing to their new IP address(es). There are two ways to update DNS:

Updating DNS via Domain Connect

If your site’s domain supports Domain Connect, all you need to do is click the Update DNS button, log in to your DNS provider, and Flywheel will automatically configure the domain for you. If necessary, repeat this process for any additional domains on the site.

Flywheel Cloud Platform upgrade via Domain Connect with GoDaddy.

Updating DNS manually

Domain names that do not support Domain Connect will need to have their DNS records pointed manually. This process can be tricky sometimes, so check out our provider-specific instructions below.

Flywheel Cloud Platform upgrade manually through GoDaddy.

Note

Once you’ve pointed DNS to the New IP, you can continue making changes to your site until the upgrade window begins and again after the upgrade completes, but not during the upgrade window itself.
