Layout guest blogging guidelines

Layout guest blogging guidelines

Some quick tips on how to submit a pitch!

We’re always looking for talented, passionate contributors to write and share their knowledge on our blog, Layout. If you have exceptional design, development, or WordPress skills and would like to share your expertise with a large audience of web designers, freelancers, and agencies, you’re an excellent candidate!

What we’re looking for

We accept submissions that are impactful, intentional, and unique. The more personal experience you have with the topic, the better! Here are some of the most common types of articles we publish:

Tutorials

Tutorials, or “how to” articles, are the “bread and butter” of Layout for WordPress web designers! These should be easy to follow along and typically have a step-by-step guide on how to achieve a goal, such as how to fix and prevent WordPress plugin conflicts or how to create a neon glow effect in Photoshop.

Guides & best practices

These articles should give a reader in-depth takeaways backed by examples, quotes, or stats to prove a point. Once a reader has finished this article, they should be experts on the topic and be ready to take that next step, whatever it may be! Web designer lingo: A guide for your clients and How to establish your 2020 marketing strategy and KPIs are great examples of guides and best practice articles.

Opinion/think-pieces

These articles are great for sharing thought-leadership topics. If you consider yourself or your company a leader in a certain field, this may be the perfect option for you. Here’s a great example of an opinion piece, written by the famous Chris Coyier.

A few other things to keep in mind:

  • If your pitch is accepted, an editor will work with you to ensure the article fits our voice and style guide before it’s published.
  • We reserve the right to update the article in the future for accuracy.
  • We may include a Flywheel-related call-to-action at the end of your article, such as an ebook and other downloadable content.

How to submit a guest post

Step 1: Research

Before submitting your pitch, search our existing articles for the topic you’re interested in to make sure we don’t already have the same thing published. From there, do the research to make sure your outline is unique, solves a problem, or offers personal experience.

Note: While we do allow backlinks, we do not accept sponsored content or strictly-promotional posts. If your company/brand is interested in partnering with Flywheel, you can email [email protected]

Step 2: Submit your pitch to

When you’re ready, send your pitch to [email protected] with the subject line: “Guest Pitch: [Tentative title of post]”. Your pitch should include the topic idea, possible article title names, and a few talking points you’d cover in the article. In addition, please add a quick bio of yourself, links to your published articles, and anything else you think we should know!

If your topic is relevant and aligns with our content strategy, someone from our team will reach out to let you know and follow up with more details.

Note: Due to the volume of requests we receive, we cannot respond to all submissions. You’ll only receive a reply if we choose to move forward with your pitch!
