Name servers on Flywheel

Flywheel does not offer name servers, and we recommend not updating your domain’s name servers when pointing to Flywheel. Instead, we recommend modifying the A record and CNAME DNS records to point your domain to Flywheel. This is much easier, and significantly less error-prone than changing your name servers.

For instance, if you purchased your domain at GoDaddy, you can use their DNS manager to modify the A record to point your domain to your Flywheel site’s IP address. In this case you do not need to modify any name servers; you’re just changing the IP address the domain points to.

Warning

Changing the name server records for your domain can result in all kinds of broken things – specifically email. For this reason, we strongly recommend that you leave your name servers set as the registrar’s defaults if at all possible.

Depending on your domain registrar, it’s possible that they may require you to use external name servers. Flywheel does not offer name servers, so in cases such as this, we recommend a third-party solution such as Cloudflare to manage your domain’s name servers.
