No we do not support .htaccess
files.
Flywheel runs the Nginx web server, which does not utilize .htaccess
files (which is one of the things that makes it so fast).
All of the things typically associated with .htaccess
files, Flywheel either handles for you automatically, you can configure yourself through the app, or we can handle via support.
Some common examples of .htaccess
uses include:
Permalinks | Flywheel automatically configures Nginx to handle permalinks for you. |
Caching | Flywheel handles caching for you and has configured Nginx accordingly. No need to install plugins or modify .htaccess files. |
Redirects / rewrites | Redirects can be handled from your Flywheel dashboard using this help doc. You can also install a plugin to handle redirects. |
Security | Many WordPress® security plugins have you modify the .htaccess file to install security rules.1 Fortunately, Flywheel already has these types of security precautions in place at the server level. |
If you find yourself needing to modify or create a .htaccess
file, contact Flywheel support and we can help you figure out how to implement the same thing with Flywheel.
.htaccess
file in the root directory, as WordPress (and many plugins) attempt to write to the .htaccess
file when configurations change. Pay no attention to this file; it will be ignored by the web server. If you have any questions our Happiness Engineers are here to help!
