If you made changes to your live website while it was being migrated over to Flywheel, the Flywheel version may not be completely up to date. In that case, you’ll want to perform a content refresh to ensure everything is current. This guide will walk you through performing a content refresh using our awesome plugin Flywheel Migrations!
However, if you have a more precarious setup, for example a multisite or an eCommerce site, special considerations should be taken when performing a content refresh. Check out the following help articles for information on alternative refresh methods:
On your non-Flywheel site, navigate to the Plugins menu item. Search the plugin repository for Flywheel Migrations.
Install and activate the plugin (this may already be installed if Flywheel assisted with the initial migration).
Once installed, head back to your WordPress dashboard and click the Flywheel button on the left sidebar.
Type in your email address and click the box to accept the terms and conditions. This allows Flywheel Migrations to send out handy status updates. Click the Get Started button.
Copy the URL from the address bar when you’re viewing your site’s dashboard in the Flywheel app, and paste into the form.
This is the temporary domain assigned to the destination site on Flywheel. Pro tip, this domain generally ends in flywheelsites.com!
This will be the same username and password that you use to log into Flywheel. Note, this may be different than the WordPress username and password for your site!
Not sure if your Flywheel site has Privacy Mode enabled? Over on the site’s Overview tab on the Flywheel dashboard, you’ll see the Privacy Mode box on the right sidebar. If this is currently set to “On” (all Demo Sites have this on by default), you will want to copy the username and password credentials over to Flywheel Migrations.
If you’d like to migrate files outside of the wp-content folder, or if your source site is password protected, choose the relevant options here.
You can now sit back and relax while our Fly robots migrate your site! Progress can be monitored on the next screen, or you can close the page and wait for the completion email to be sent to your inbox.
Once the migration has wrapped up, click through your Flywheel-hosted site and make sure those robots moved everything over ok. If anything is amiss, get in touch via chat, or undo it all by restoring from a backup.
