What is a “temporary URL” and how do I change it?

Every site created on Flywheel comes with a temporary URL so that it’s immediately accessible to you even before you point your own domain name at it. These domains reside at, and you can choose a subdomain yourself or have us generate a random (and totally awesome) one for you.

When you first create a site on Flywheel, you’re given the option of customizing the temporary URL. If you leave this field blank, we will generate a random subdomain for you.

Once your site is created, you’ll be able to access your new WordPress site using the temporary URL that you entered or that was generated. You can view this URL on the site page, just to the right of the screenshot:

How do I change the temporary URL?

You can easily change the temporary URL for your site by hovering over the domain in the “Domains” box on the site’s Flywheel dashboard. From there, you select “Change” in the drop down menu, which will open up a dialog box to change your URL.

For more information about adding domains to your site, see the help articles: How do set up my DNS? and Can I point multiple domains at my website?
