A day in the life: front-end development team

These focused Flywheelers are passionate about both code AND design. That’s right, they are…the front-end development team!

This group of talented individuals just pulled off an amazing UI refresh and spent a whole week polishing off app fixes! How do they accomplish so much while never sacrificing quality? Let’s take a look at what a typical day looks like in the life of Flywheel’s front-end development team!

2016.12.09 Day in the Life - Front End Dev Team-0535

9:00 a.m. – Josh arrives, flips open his computer, and fires up Spotify (he’s currently listening to Young Funk). After popping in his headphones, he opens up Google Chrome to check Asana and Trello for the day’s goals. Josh is the marketing team’s front-end developer, so he tackles the code behind Flywheel’s website and makes our web presence look fly and work fly!

9:15 a.m. – Over on the opposite side of the office, the front-end development team gathers for their daily standup.

11:00 a.m. – Will is working away at making the new Flywheel app responsive. This means that however customers access our website – mobile, desktop, or otherwise – the layout and design will be flexible enough to fit the size of their screen. As he makes changes, Will tinkers with different devices to make sure user experience is smooth sailing across all forms of technology!

12:00 p.m. – Time for lunch! Will saves his progress on the app responsiveness and heads over to Flywheel Underground to grab a bite to eat.

1:00 p.m. – After a lovely lunch with his fellow Flywheelers, Trevan carefully reviews pull requests using a platform called GitHub. Whenever we write code, we make sure to run it by several other team members to ensure that everything is A-OK before deploying. Reliability and consistency are the foundation our code was built on!

3:00 p.m. – The day is winding down and Dylan is still making power moves. He’s focusing on creating extra special tools that will make our designers’ lives easier. He uses GitHub to review and make changes to his work, which helps with collaboration and integration with others while making sure that no bits of code get lost along the way. And every now and then, Dylan can be found glancing at a framed picture of his cat, Watson. He also has another cat named Edison, but he “doesn’t love him as much.” (Dylan’s own words!)2016.12.09 Day in the Life - Front End Dev Team-0501

We are always proud of the wonderful work our front-end development team does. Every day they’re producing amazing (and beautiful) things that help designers do what they love. Thanks for checking out a day in the life of Flywheel’s front-end development team!
